Base64 File Tool

Encode a file as Base64 or decode Base64 into a file.

How to use Base64 File Tool

  1. Choose Encode file to Base64 and select a file up to 10 MiB, or choose Decode pasted Base64 and enter plain Base64 or a data URL containing ;base64,.
  2. For encoding, choose whether to include the data-URL prefix. For decoding, enter the output filename.
  3. Run the tool and download the result. Decoded content is saved as a file and is not previewed or executed.

What this tool does

Base64 increases size and large files can consume substantial memory.

Example

Paste data:text/plain;base64,SGVsbG8= in decode mode and use hello.txt as the filename to download the five decoded bytes for Hello.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the encoded text longer than the file?

Base64 represents three input bytes with four text characters, plus any padding or data-URL prefix. This tool limits encoded input files to 10 MiB.

Can the decoder open a data URL?

Yes, if it uses the ;base64, marker. The decoded bytes are downloaded using the chosen filename and are not previewed or executed.
